Medical Examination
Medical examination, medical treatment and/or physiotherapy are allowed as long as they do not delay the competition and are provided by:
- On the competition area: By the official medical staff appointed by the Organisers.
- In designated medical treatment areas: By accredited and approved team medical personnel.
If the previous conditions are not met, it is considered assistance and thus it is not allowed.
Assistance not Allowed
- Pacing in races by persons not participating in the same race, by athletes lapped or about to be lapped or by any kind of technical device.
- Possession or use of mobile phones or similar devices in the competition area.
- The use of any technology or appliance that provides the athlete with an advantage.
- The use of any mechanical aid.
- Provision of advice or support by any official of the competition.
- Receiving physical support from another athlete that assists in making forward progress in a race.
Assistance Allowed
- Communication between the athletes and their coaches.
- Medical examination, medical treatment and/or physiotherapy as previously described.
- Any kind of personal safeguard for protection and/or medical purposes.
- Heart rate or speed distance monitors or stride sensors or similar devices carried or worn personally by athletes.
- Viewing by athletes competing in Field Events, of images of previous trial(s), recorded on their behalf.
- Hats, gloves, shoes, items of clothing provided to athletes at official stations or when approved by the relevant Referee.
- Receiving physical support from an official or other designated person to recover to a standing position or to access medical assistance.
- Electronic lights or similar appliances indicating progressive times during a race.
Consequences of Assistance
Any athlete giving or receiving assistance shall be warned by the Referee and advised that, if there is any repetition, they will be disqualified from that event.
In some cases, disqualification may be made without warning.
